Wormsloe Historic Site

This was exactly what I was looking forward to when we decided to take a trip to Georgia. Although I preferred to see more of a working plantation, with the beautiful house and the sprawling grounds, this was so much better than I could have asked for.

The Wormsloe Historic Site was the place of the Wormsloe colonial estate of Noble Jones, who was one of the first settlers in Savannah along with James Oglethorpe. Now, the state owns the plantation and maintain the history. Going into this place we really didn’t know any of the history or how the owners had affected the state of Georgia, however, afterward we learned so much about the Jones Family and what the estate meant to the settlers and history.

Shockingly, after the years of harsh weather, war, and the elements, some of the estate still stood, such as the walls, the base of the chimney, and part of the well. Of course this is because of the great care people have taken to make sure that others could see this in the future.

If you couldn’t tell from my previous posts, history + nature is the best combination. This was right up my alley, not only was it beautiful, but it was a great way to take a walk through a Georgia forest and learn more about how this society was founded in the 1700’s. I know I say this about a lot of things, but this really was a MUST when in Savannah. It was about 10 minutes away from the downtown center, and a quick reminder that it’s closed on Monday (we made that mistake!).
